What is the difference between Public Recipes and Private Recipes?
Public recipes are recipes that members have entered and not marked as private. They can be viewed by anybody who visits the site, whether they are members of the site or not. Private recipes are marked as private when a member enters them. They are only able to be viewed by the owner of the recipe or members that the owner specifically granted access to. Can I participate in the forums without being a member? At this time, no. You must be signed in to your account in order to view the forums or to post messages to the forums. This is to ensure that only appropriate content gets posted to the discussions.

Can I participate in the forums without being a member?
At this time, no. You must be signed in to your account in order to view the forums or to post messages to the forums. This is to ensure that only appropriate content gets posted to the discussions.

Are my recipes secure?
Yes. Your recipes cannot be viewed by anybody but you, unless you say they can!! Your recipes are 100% safe and secure, so you will never have to worry about your secret recipes getting out!

Recipe Entry

What is the difference between uploading and entering a recipe?
You should choose the “Upload Recipe” option if you have a scanned image of a recipe. This option is available for members who prefer to scan their recipes rather than manually type them in. If you prefer to type your recipes into the system, you should choose the “Enter Recipe” option. This allows you to type out the ingredients, instructions, and other information into a form to store it in the system.

Can I have both uploaded and regular recipes?
Yes. You can have any combination of recipes you like. Both will be available by using the member search.

How do I upload a recipe?
You must first login to your account. Once logged in, click on the Enter Recipe link located in the left column of the page. Next, click on the “Upload Recipe” link, which will display the Upload Recipe form. Click on the Browse button to find the location of your scanned recipe. Enter the Title, Description, and Category of the recipe in the form (to allow for searching later). Choose whether you would like the recipe to be Private (checked) or Public (unchecked). Click the Upload Recipe button.

Why won’t my recipe upload?
CurrentlCurrently, your recipe must be in the JPEG (.jpg) format and be less than 10 megabytes in size. You can check the format and size of your recipe by right clicking on it and selecting Properties.

How can I change the format of my recipe to a supported format?> When scanning your recipe, make sure you are scanning it as an image. Most scanners will default to the JPEG format, but if it does not, make sure you select this from the available options.

My scanned recipes are all bigger than 1 megabyte, how can I make them smaller?
When scanning your recipe, change the resolution to a lower setting. Text recipes can be scanned at a lower resolution and still be clear enough to read.

How do I change a recipe once it is entered?
From the Member’s Menu, click on My Recipes. Find the recipe you would like to edit by using the search criteria available. Click on the recipe you would like to change in the results table. When the recipe is displayed, their will be an Edit Recipe button located at the bottom of the page. Click the button and make the desired changes.

I do not see an Edit Recipe button at the bottom of the recipe, why?
You must be the owner of the recipe in order to make any changes. If you would like to take a public recipe and change the instructions or any other information, you must enter it as one of your own recipes.

Can I make a Private Recipe public, or vice versa?
Yes. Open your recipe by clicking My Recipes in the Member’s Menu. Once the recipe is open, click on the Edit Recipe button. Either check (to make private) or uncheck (to make public) the Private Recipe checkbox at the bottom of the recipe form. Click Submit Changes.

Recipe Viewing

Why is the image distorted when I view an uploaded recipe?
An uploaded recipe may appear distorted depending on the size of the uploaded image. If your recipe does not appear as it should, click on the image. This will open the recipe in a full view that will not be distorted.

How can I print my recipes in a more readable format?
When you select the recipe you would like to print, click on the Print Recipe button rather than using your browser’s print command. This will put the recipe into a printer-friendly format.

Recipe Search

What is the difference between Public Recipes (main menu) and My Recipes (members menu)?
If you use the Public Recipes Search, located at the top of the page, you will search only Public recipes. These are recipes entered by all users of the page that are not marked as private. The My Recipes search option in the members menu by default only searches the recipes that you have entered and the recipes other members have specifically given you access to.

What are the search options available in the members search?
In the My Recipes search, you have the option to search “My Recipes,” which will only return recipes that you have personally entered, “My Friends,” which will only return recipes that other members have specifically given you access to, or “Both,” which will return both recipes you have entered and recipes that others have granted you access to. You can also search by Keyword, Total Prep Time, and Category.

Granting Access

How do I grant someone access to my recipes?
Once logged in to your account, click on the Manage Access link in the Member’s Menu. Next, click on the link that says Click Here to Give a New Member Access. See if the person you are looking for is already a member by seaching for their name. If so, select the user, then select the recipes you would like to share with them, and click Add Friend. If the user is not listed, click the link at the bottom of the page. You must then enter the email address of the person you would like to give access to and select the recipes that you would like to share with that user. Then click Invite Friend. Once the member joins (they must use the email address you entered!) they will have access to the recipes you sent and they will show up under My Friends.

Can I take access to my recipes away?
Yes. At any time, you can revoke a member’s access to your recipes. To do this, go to the Manage Access module from the Member’s Menu. Select the radio button beside the member's name that you wish to revoke access for, and then click Remove Access.

Can I grant someone access to my recipes if they are not a member?
Yes. If you enter their email address in the Invite a New Member, they will be sent an email notifying them that you have given them access to your recipes. As soon as they sign up for a membership, they will have access to the recipes you specified.

Somebody granted me access to their recipes, but I do not see them when I search, what went wrong?
First, make sure you are searching from the My Recipes link in the Member’s Menu and that you have My Friends checked in the search criteria. Next, make sure that they show up as a friend when you click My Friends. If they do not, ask them to search for your name and resend the recipes.

I tried to give someone access to my recipes, but they do not see my recipes, what went wrong?
Make sure that you entered the email address that they have in their user profile. They can check this by going to the Edit Profile link in the Member’s Menu.

If you gave a non-member access to your recipes, they must use the email address that you sent the notification to when signing up for an account in order to get access to your recipes.
